GERMANY: Niedersachsen transport authority LNVG has awarded Alstom a €27m contract to modernise 27 Coradia Lint 41 diesel multiple-units used on Weser-Ems services. The work is to be undertaken at Alstom's Braunschweig site for completion in December 2015.
The contract announced on June 26 is designed to ensure the trains can be used for at least another 15 years. The scope includes replacement of the doors and seats, an external repaint, installation of CCTV, power sockets and passenger information screens and provision of a wheelchair space with passenger voice communication point.
'This job is the ideal opportunity to demonstrate that refurbishing trains is a cost-effective option to extend the lifespan of existing rolling stock', said Klaus Hiller, director of Alstom's Transport Life Services business.
