BULGARIA: An extension of Sofia metro Line M2 was opened by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on July 20.

The 1·3 km underground alignment south from James Bourchier to Vitosha took two years to build. Construction cost €26·4m, of which €22m came from EU funds for the 2014-20 budget period.

Metro operator Sofia Metropoliten estimates that the extension will increase ridership on the two-line metro network from 335 000 passengers/day to 350 000. A third line is under construction and due to open in 2019.
