CHINA: Deutsche Bahn CEO Rüdiger Grube signed two memoranda of understanding to undertake projects in China on June 13, during a visit to China by Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The first covers the provision of maintenance and repair support to rolling stock manufacturer CRRC. This continues co-operation to optimise high-speed trainset maintenance, and provide mutual support in addressing operating problems related to the wheel-rail interface.

Under the second agreement, DB will provide consultancy services as part of a consortium which has been selected to operate regional transport services in Dalian. This will see experts from DB Engineering & Consulting become ‘the first foreigners to work on a regional transport project in China’, according to Grube.

‘The People's Republic of China is an important market for us and will remain so in future’, said Grube. ‘In view of the plans to invest more than €300bn in transport infrastructure, we wish to benefit from the growth and potential in China. Our expertise is in high demand and our successful international activities also strengthen our position in our home market of Germany.’
