FRANCE: SNCF Logistics and maritime freight technology company Traxens have announced a partnership to develop technology for monitoring and real-time tracking of freight trains. This follows a year of research and testing of digital equipment for use in the rail environment.
The project is to be launched at the Transport Logistic trade fair to be held in München during May.
'The digital freight train is a major innovation for placing rail freight at the heart of the transport offering in the 21st century', said SNCF Logistics CEO Alain Picard on March 30. 'Our partnership with Traxens allows us to invent and implement a solution that will benefit all players in the sector: railway undertakings, wagon leasing companies and shippers.'
Traxens was founded in Marseille in 2012. Its shareholders include shipping companies CMA CGM and MSC. ‘To be chosen by SNCF for the digital freight train is both a huge boost for our young company and validation of our technology, which has proven to be the best solution for the digital train as well as for multimodal containers’, said founder & CEO Michel Fallah. ‘This is a promising sign for our development into new markets.’
