USA: Cargotec Corp’s rail freight planning, scheduling and analytics software business Navis has developed a module for the optimisation and management of train crew scheduling.
As part of its cloud-based Navis Rail Planning Suite, the module provides tools to manage short-term changes to timetables and staff availability, to capture and record staff attendance electronically, and to extract reports for payroll and analytics.
According to the head of Navis Rail Tom Forbes, general-purpose personnel scheduling and rostering systems do not meet the requirements of rail operators, who need rail-specific processes that take into account constraints including personnel, route, traction, workflow, rules, regulations and labour agreements.
