USA: Keolis Commuter Services is testing the use of virtual reality glasses developed by AMA XpertEye which enable staff maintaining the MBTA Commuter Rail fleet to transmit live video and other information to senior technicians at the main maintenance facility.
Screen captures and image annotation enable the experts to more quickly diagnose issues on vehicles in remote locations. Keolis hopes this will reduce repair times and maintenance costs while improving overall fleet reliability.
Keolis said that if the trial proves successful, it will look at distributing the glasses at it operations around the world.
