RETROFITTING: ZTR Control Systems has launched a new wheelslip control system for retrofitting to older locomotives.
The US firm says its new BOA-II platform offers advanced excitation and superior protection to improve tractive effort and reliability. Users can install a series of basic modules as an upgrade to other ZTR systems such as the Locomotive Electronic Load Controller, or fit the full BOA-II suite which includes provision for future functionality improvements.
According to the General Manager of ZTR’s rail division, Matthew Scott, the control system offers ‘superior train handling while providing better equipment protection. This should enable railroads to extend the life of their locomotive fleet.’
