CANADA: Toronto Transit Commission announced on June 6 that tracklaying had been completed on the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension, with the installation of 17·4 km of track and four sections of ‘special track’.
Due for completion by the end of 2017, the 8·6 km extension of metro Line 1 from Downsview to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre will add six stations. Toronto Transit Commission and Bechtel Canada Co are working together to manage the project.
The federal government has committed up to C$697m towards the extension, with the government of Ontario providing C$870m, the city of Toronto C$907m and the municipality of York C$606m.
