EUROPE: Leasing company Akiem has ordered 20 Siemens Mobility Vectron locomotives. The firm order announced on December 21 is the first to be placed under a framework agreement which the companies signed in August.
The 6·4 MW multi-system electric locomotives will be equipped with ETCS and various national train control systems as required.
‘We are committed to offering our customers across Europe the locomotives that will secure and develop their cross-border operations’, said Akiem CEO Fabien Rochefort. ‘This acquisition will greatly help the wider development of our passenger activities, with vehicles offering traction speeds of up to 200 km/h. We are thrilled to continue providing our customers with state-of-the-art locomotives for corridors towards markets in Scandinavia, Italy and central and southeastern Europe.’
Siemens Mobility has now sold 1 156 Vectron locomotives to 58 customers in 16 countries, and the type has gained approval for operation in 20 European countries.
