EUROPE: Bombardier Transportation has signed a contract to supply leasing company Akiem with 10 Traxx DC locomotives for use on freight services in Italy and Poland.
The order announced on August 21 is worth €33m at list prices. An option for up to 10 more could take the total value to €65m. The 140 km/h locomotives are to be assembled at Vado Ligure in Italy, with bodyshells from Wrocław in Poland, bogies from Siegen in Germany and traction converters from Trapaga in Spain. Deliveries are scheduled between the third quarter of 2015 and the first quarter of 2016.
The contract follows on from an order for 15 Traxx locos which Akiem placed in 2013. ‘This contract is the result of a real partnership with Bombardier’, said Fabien Rochefort, CEO of Akiem which is part of the Ermewa Group subsidiary of SNCF Geodis. ‘All our new 3 kV Traxx customers will benefit from the skills of Akiem engineers and Akiem's spare parts and components storage which we developed with our previous Traxx AC and MS fleet.’
