EUROPE: Leasing company Akiem has awarded Siemens Mobility a firm order to supply 65 Vectron AC and Vectron MS electric locomotives from mid-2024.
The 6·4 MW locos for use on cross-border freight and fast passenger services will have a maximum speed of either 200 or 230 km/h.
Albrecht Neumann, CEO for Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility, said the order announced on August 31 was the first ‘for a large number of units’ to be placed within a framework agreement signed by Akiem in December 2021 which included an initial order for 20 locos.
‘We are especially pleased that the Vectron, with its unique modular design, will be making a significant contribution in the Akiem fleet to cross-border European freight and passenger services’, he said. ‘With this order, we have also reached the milestone of 1 500 Vectrons sold: clear proof of customer satisfaction.’
Vectron locomotives have now been sold to 62 customers in 16 countries, and are approved for operation in 20 European states.
