UK: Angel Trains has awarded Alstom a €28m contract to repaint the fleet of 56 Class 390 Pendolino trainsets operated by Virgin Trains on the West Coast Main Line.
This will be the first project to be completed at the technology centre which Alstom is developing in Widnes for opening in May 2017. Parts of the centre will be built specifically to accommodate the repainting programme, which is scheduled for completion by December 2019.
Each Pendolino trainset will take two weeks to repaint, with the cars being stripped of exterior paint and fittings to facilitate inspection for minor damage.
Around 80 people will be employed for the duration of the project, and will undergo training at the North West Transport Training Academy which Alstom is to build at the Widnes site.
