ROMANIA: Alstom has announced its first order to supply main line passenger trains to Romania.
The €270m contract signed with railway reform authority ARF and announced on March 25 covers the delivery of 20 Coradia Stream inter-regional electric multiple-units and the provision of 15 years of maintenance.
There is an option for a further 20 EMUs and extended maintenance of the entire fleet, which would take the total value to more than €750m.
The six-car 160 km/h TSI-compliant low-floor units will have two doors on each side of the intermediate cars and one door per side of the end cars.
The interiors will feature 350 seats, a dynamic passenger information system, large luggage racks and four retention toilets including one designed for people with reduced mobility.
The units will be equipped with passenger counting systems and ETCS Level 2.
The final configuration, livery and finishes will be customised according to the customer’s requirements.
Alstom has been active in Romania for almost 30 years, supplying electrification and signalling systems and maintaining the București metro fleet. In 2020 it won an order to supply metro trains to the capital.
