USA: Amsted Rail Transit is to supply bogies, couplers, drawgear and crash energy management systems for the double-deck commuter rail coaches which Chicago’s Metra has ordered from Alstom.
‘This programme will make Amsted Rail the only US provider of cast steel bogie designs with the in-house capability to provide the complete assembled bogie, fully validated with all product static and dynamic testing — literally rolling the full system under Alstom’s newly designed state-of-the-art Metra cars’, said Matt Cook, Chief Operating Officer, Amsted Rail Truck & End-of-Car Systems, on September 23. ‘It is two industry leaders optimising efficiencies.’
The base order finalised in March is for 200 coaches worth €650m, with options for up to 300 more. The stainless steel coaches derived from Alstom’s Coradia Duplex family are to be built at the company’s plant at Hornell in New York state, with its site in Rochester, New York, supplying the automatic train control system.
