SPAIN: Catalan operator FGC has awarded Alstom a contract to supply and maintain 10 five-car Coradia Stream electric multiple-units for use on services between Barcelona city centre and El Prat Airport.
The 120 km/h EMUs will feature large luggage spaces, wide corridors and a total capacity of 600 passengers. The styling will be inspired by the geography, architecture and traditions of Catalunya, and the EMUs will have a flexible and modular design to they can be adapted to different needs throughout their life cycle.
They will have low floors, except in the bogie and cab areas, with extra-wide double doors at platform height. The ONCE Foundation advised on accessibility for passengers with reduced mobility.
The contract announced on September 2 is worth €177m, including 15 years of maintenance.
Manufacturing will be undertaken at Alstom’s Santa Perpètua de la Mogoda plant in Barcelona, where the company will also build a maintenance depot.
Leopoldo Maestu, Managing Director of Alstom Spain, said ’we offer leading technology in the sector, unique industrial capacity, a local supplier network and a consolidated value chain for developing these state-of-the-art trains for FGC. We are confident they will be the new face of sustainable mobility.’
