POLAND: Leasing company Cargounit and Siemens Mobility signed a framework contract for the supply and maintenance of up to 30 Vectron MS locomotives at the Trako trade fair on September 22. There is a firm order for 10 to be delivered between this year and the end of 2023, and options to order a further 20 by 2024.
Cargounit previously ordered six Vectrons in 2018-19, the last two of which were delivered in June this year.
The latest order covers 200 km/h locos rated at 6·4 MW under AC electrification and 6·0 MW under DC. They will be equipped with ETCS Baseline 3 and approved for Poland, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and the Netherlands, with options for Romania and Bulgaria.
‘Cargounit’s strategy assumes dynamic development through investment in modern electric locomotives’, said Łukasz Boroń, President of the management board.
‘International transport, especially in the intermodal segment, is the fastest growing section of the market, and the Vectron MS locomotives are a proven and valued platform for multisystem locomotives with approval for many European countries. An important aspect when choosing a supplier of multisystem locomotives was the ability to quickly deliver fully approved locomotives to meet the current needs of our customers.’
More than 1 114 Vectrons have now been sold to 56 customers in 16 countries, with nearly 60 in use with Poland’s Cargounit, DB Cargo Polska, PKP Cargo, Lotos Kolej and Laude Smart Intermodal.
