CHINA: CRRC Dalian’s FXN3C main line freight diesel locomotive has passed emissions testing at Turpan in Xinjiang to confirm that it meets the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier 3 emission standards.
Designed to haul trains of up to 5 000 tonnes, the twin-cabbed Co-Co locomotive is powered by a 3·5 MW 12V265C-V engine with a fuel consumption of 198 g/kWh. It is also fitted with a remote monitoring system.
Being developed as part of the manufacturer’s Fuxing locomotive family, the prototype FXN3C was subjected to low-temperature testing during December 2019 to confirm that it could operate satisfactorily in extremely cold conditions down to –40°C.
