GERMANY: DB Regio Bayern has awarded Siemens Mobility a contract to supply 25 Desiro HC electric multiple-units and six Mireo units for use on Donau-Isar regional passenger services from the December 2024 timetable change.
Last year Bayern railway agency BEG awarded DB Regio the contract to operate Donau-Isar services for 12 years from December 2024.
BEG specified the use of new, air-conditioned and accessible vehicles offering a high capacity, wi-fi and real-time passenger information systems, and is providing a debt service guarantee to support the financing of the fleet.
The four-car Desiro HC partly double-deck EMUs will have 350 seats in standard class and 20 in first. They are to be used on service RE3 München Hbf – Landshut – Plattling – Passau, and will also be used on RB33 (München Hbf) – Freising – Moosburg – Landshut until the opening of the second cross-city S-Bahn tunnel, when they will be used to increase peak frequencies between München, Regensburg and Plattling.
The four-car Mireo single-deck EMUs will have 250 seats in standard class and 14 first, and are to be used on RE22 from München airport to Landshut and Regensburg.
Wheelchair users will be able board unassisted at stations with 760 mm high platforms, and there will be a powered lift for use at stations with low platforms.
Desiro HC and Mireo EMUs are ‘very popular with passengers and have already significantly improved passenger satisfaction on many routes’, said Albrecht Neumann, CEO Rolling Stock at Siemens Mobility, when the order was announced on January 29.
