EGYPT: Egyptian National Railways has awarded Ukraine’s Nikolaev Locomotive Repair Plant a contract to modernise 55 Adtranz DE2550 diesel locomotives.
‘We will carry out deep modernisation of diesel locomotives with the installation of new engines, power and auxiliary equipment and microprocessor control systems to significantly improve the economic performance of the units and reduce operational expenses’, said NTRZ director Serhiy Roy.
The work will be carried out in Ukraine and locally in Egypt.
The contract could be expanded to cover up to 200 locomotives and ongoing maintenance, with the potential for NTRZ to establish an engineering services department in Egypt.
