EGYPT: Egyptian National Railways has awarded Wabtec a contract for the supply and multi-year maintenance of 100 ES30ACi Evolution Series diesel locomotives.
The contract signed in a ceremony on November 8 is part of ENR’s ongoing modernisation programme, and is being funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development.
Wabtec said the twin-cab locomotives to be delivered in 2023 would offer ‘best-in-class fuel efficiency, lowest total cost of ownership, and high performance in high temperature environments’. The locos will be powered by a 12-cylinder, 3 300 hp Evolution Series engine through an AC traction package with individual axle control, and will be fitted with dynamic brakes.
The latest order means ENR will have more than 300 locomotives supplied by Wabtec or its predecessor GE Transportation.
‘This order underscores the commitment by the Ministry of Transportation and ENR to provide world-class passenger service’, said Gökhan Bayhan, Wabtec Senior Vice-President for Russia/CIS, Europe, Middle East & North Africa. ‘These locomotives will provide the quality, performance and reliability needed to meet the needs of Egypt’s rail network. With this agreement, we will help ENR move passengers and products faster and more efficiently.’
- ENR and Alstom have signed a framework agreement for modernisation and double-tracking of the 65 km Tanta – Zifta – Zagazig line. The scope includes the design, supply, installation and testing of signalling, power and telecoms systems and trackside equipment for migration to ETCS Level 1.
