ITALY: The first of four 950 mm gauge Stadler SRDe 212 diesel multiple-units for Ferrovie della Calabria was unveiled at Cosenza station on February 1.
The two-car DMUs ordered in February 2021 have large windows, facing seats and low-floor areas with dedicated space for wheelchairs and bicycles. The remaining three are scheduled to be arrive by July, and there is an option to order 10 more.
Ferrovie della Calabria currently operates seven two-car DE M4c.500 DMUs manufactured by Stadler in 2007-09; these are equipped for rack operation, while the latest trains are adhesion only.
President of the Calabria region Roberto Occhiuto said €600m is being invested in the area’s transport, including the new trains and 36 Iveco buses.
