RUSSIA: Russian Railways, Gazprom, Transmashholding and Sinara Group have agreed to co-operate to develop technology and roll-out fuel distribution and handling systems needed to support the use of liquefied natural gas to fuel locomotives.
Under an agreement signed at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 17, Transmashholding will obtain certification and handle the production and maintenance of a pilot batch of TEM19 LNG-fuelled shunting locomotives.
Sinara Group will obtain certification for its prototype GT1h-002 main line turbine-electric locomotive, and produce a pilot batch of the 8·3 MW locomotives to haul 9 000 tonne freight trains on the Korotchaevo – Voinovka route in Siberia.
