ITALY: National operator Trenitalia has selected Hitachi Rail to provide integrated logistics support for the maintenance of its Frecciarossa fleet of ETR500 high speed trains.
The €152·8m contract signed on March 10 runs for six years, with an option for a further two. It covers the management of repairs and the supply of spare parts and components for the 59-strong fleet of 300 km/h trainsets. This is intended to facilitate the optimisation of stock levels and ensure guaranteed delivery within 48 h.
Hitachi Rail already holds full service contracts to support the maintenance of Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa 1000 and Frecciargento ETR700 trainsets. It said the latest agreement would ‘further increase the availability and efficiency of high speed services in Italy’.
‘We are delighted that Trenitalia has once again placed its trust in Hitachi Rail through this contract, which is proof of our continued positive co-operation’, said Edoardo La Ficara, Executive Officer for Hitachi Rail’s Operational Service & Maintenance Division. ‘At this very difficult time, we are proud of the commitment of all our teams to ensure the continuity of our business and that of our customers.’
