POLAND: Rolling stock manufacturer Pesa and fuel company PKN Orlen are to jointly offer rail operators hydrogen vehicles and the fuel they require.
The two companies signed an agreement at InnoTrans, held in Berlin on September 21-24, where Pesa displayed a hydrogen shunting locomotive along with a mobile refuelling station.
The locomotive is to undergo final testing in Żmigród, before entering service at the PKN Orlen plant in Płock in Q1 2023. Pesa is also working on hydrogen passenger vehicles ahead of expected tenders in Poland.
‘Today, no-one is wondering whether hydrogen vehicles will enter the Polish tracks, because it is inevitable’, said Pesa President Krzysztof Zdziarski. ‘In discussions with operators, we are often asked how we will solve the issue of hydrogen refuelling. That is why the agreement signed today is so important — it is a clear signal for the market, the vehicles produced by Pesa have an assured supply of hydrogen.’
