SWITZERLAND: Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn has awarded Stadler a SFr23m contract to supply seven locomotives of three types for shunting and hauling infrastructure trains. This will enable the metre-gauge operator to retire its older diesel locomotives, standardise its non-passenger fleet and reduce noise and emissions.
The contract signed on December 23 covers the supply of two Tea 2/2 electric locomotives and one Gm 2/2 diesel-electric locomotive for adhesion-only operation, and four HGm 2/2 diesel-electric locomotives which will also be equipped for Abt rack operation.
The electric locomotives will be equipped with remote control and fitted with batteries for use off the 11 kV 16·7 Hz overhead supply. The diesel locomotives will have Mercedes Stage IIIB-compliant engines.
All three types of locomotive will be 8·37 m long and 2 650 mm wide, and will share a common design of cab, as well as ABB traction equipment and control system design.
