HUNGARY: Stadler’s factory in Dunakeszi has rolled out the first Kiss double-deck electric multiple-unit for national passenger operator MÁV-Start, which has so far ordered a total of 19 under a 2017 eight-year framework agreement for up to 40.
Testing is to be undertaken in Germany and the Czech Republic, with entry into service planned from February 2020 on routes from Budapest to Vác and Cegléd.
Unveiling the first EMU on July 16, Stadler said the fleet would ‘open a new chapter’ for MÁV-Start’s passenger services, reducing journey times and enabling a more reliable service.
The six-car EMU has 600 seats, 50% more than a single-deck unit with the same 155·88 m length, and space for four wheelchairs. There are four toilets, one of which is accessible for persons with reduced mobility, space for 12 bicycles or five pushchairs, a ‘state-of-the-art’ information system, a ‘spacious and bright’ interior, air-conditioning and free wi-fi.
The fleet will have EVM and ETCS Level 2 train control systems suitable for operation at up to 160 km/h on modernised routes.
