EUROPE: The Metrans rail freight subsidiary of the Hamburger Hafen & Logistik port and logistics group is taking delivery of 20 Bombardier Traxx F140 MS multi-system electric locomotives.
These will primarily be used to haul freight from Hamburg and Bremerhaven to the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, and also to Austria, Switzerland and within Germany. Deliveries are expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2015.
Ulrich Jochem, President of Bombardier Transportation’s Locomotives business, said they would be ‘the first Bombardier locomotives that will be used in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.’
‘HHLA’s business model is based on the close dovetailing and optimisation of all processes along the transport chain between seaport and clients in the European hinterland’, said HHLA Chairman Klaus-Dieter Peters on September 19. ‘To do this, we rely on our own facilities and rolling stock so that we can even better oversee our processes, sustainably improve the quality of our services and provide more attractive offers for our clients.’
