AUSTRALIA: Public Transport Victoria has signed a €100m contract for Alstom to supply a further nine six-car X’Trapolis 1·5 kV DC electric multiple-units for Melbourne's 1 600 mm gauge suburban network.

Announcing the order on February 21, Alstom said production was expected to begin at its Ballarat plant later this year for delivery by late 2018 and would take PTV’s X’Trapolis fleet to 101 units.

‘This will guarantee regional jobs, training and investment and ensure ongoing support to Alstom’s extensive network of local suppliers’, said Mark Coxon, Managing Director of Alstom in Australia & New Zealand. ‘These new trains will provide additional transport capacity to the residents of the Melbourne area and allow them to commute onboard a reliable, comfortable and environmental-friendly mode of transport.’
