UKRAINE: Norway is ready to donate 12 Düwag Type 92 diesel multiple-units to Ukraine, Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygård has announced.

This followed a meeting with Ukraine’s Deputy Infrastructure Minister Oleksandra Azarkhina and Yevhen Liashchenko, Chairman of national railway Ukrzaliznytsia, at the International Transport Forum in late March.

The two-car DMUs were delivered to Norwegian national operator NSB in 1984-85.

They are being prepared for use in Ukraine by state-owned rolling stock maintenance company Mantena, with modifications and transport expected to cost up to NKr12m. It has not been decided where conversion from 1 435 mm to 1 520 mm gauge would be undertaken.

  • In March, Ukrzaliznytsia suggested to the Finnish government that it could take over the Alstom Allegro trainsets which were used on the Helsinki – St Petersburg route until services were suspended following Russia’s full scale invasion. However, Finnish national operator VR said this would require the agreement of its Karelian Trains joint venture partner Russian Railways.
