ITALY: High speed open access operator Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori is to order a further five non-tilting Alstom Pendolino trainsets.
The company’s board of management approved a decision to exercise an option for the seven-car trainsets on November 9. This follows an earlier option for four trainsets, and will take the total number of Pendolino sets operated by NTV to 17.
Alstom presented the first of the fleet at the Expo Ferroviaria trade fair in Milano in October. Branded Italo Evo by NTV and Avelia Pendolino by Alstom, the trains are due to enter commercial service during 2018. The original €460m order placed in October 2015 covered eight of the 250 km/h trains and maintenance for 20 years.
NTV also operates 25 Alstom AGV trainsets under the Italo brand on the high speed network linking Milano with Bologna, Firenze, Roma and Napoli.
- NTV’s board of directors has also decided to start the process for a stock market listing in 2018.
