POLAND: National long-distance operator PKP Intercity has signed a 551·4m złoty contract for Newag to supply 20 Griffin electric locomotives by February 2024.
The 3 kV DC locos will have a maximum speed of 160 km/h and will be equipped with ETCS, CCTV, fire alarm systems and GPS.
The order forms part of PKP Intercity’s Large Railway Investments programme, under which it plans to spend 24·5 bn złoty on rolling stock replacement and modernisation by 2030.
Plans include doubling the number of long-distance services, increasing quality and raising typical main line speeds from 120 to 160 km/h to 160 to 250 km/h.
