SLOVAKIA: National operator ZSSK has awarded Stadler a contract to supply five 1·5 kV DC electric multiple-units and an electro-diesel locomotive for the 35 km metre-gauge Tatra Electric Railway network, which has a section of rack operation. Delivery is scheduled for 2022.
Announcing the order on October 17, Stadler said the low-floor multiple-units would be from the latest generation of its GTW family, customised for rack-and-pinion as well as adhesion operation. Similar vehicles are in service in France and Switzerland.
The units would each have 91 seats and two wheelchair spaces, with a multifunctional zone for bicycles and pushchairs, wi-fi, air-conditioning, a modern passenger information system and passenger counting facilities.
The electro-diesel locomotive will meet Stage IIIB emissions standards and can be equipped with a snow blower. The cabs will be air-conditioned, and it will be equipped for radio remote control. Similar locomotives are in use in Switzerland and Spain.
