ROMANIA: Testing is underway with a prototype diesel multiple-unit developed by Electroputere VFU Pascani for use on short and medium distance services.

The 60 m long three-car 120 km/h DMU has a capacity of 164 passengers, including 22 in first class. Facilities include an accessible toilet, air-conditioning, wi-fi, power sockets and a passenger information system.

Development of the steel bodied DMU began in 2011, with a view to supplying EU and also non-EU markets. It incorporates components and subsystems from international suppliers including MTU, ZF, Medcom, Knorr-Bremse, Konvekta, Ultimate, Voith and Hubner, as well as domestic suppliers including VRG Bistrița, Tehmin Brașov and Softronic Craiova.

It has two 390 kW MTU 6H 1800 R85L diesel engines with ZF EcoLife 6 AP 2000 R gearboxes. The powered bogies manufactured by Electroputere VFU Pașcani and underwent fatigue testing at specialist facilities in București and Dresden.

The livery is inspired by traditional Romanian clothing.
