ROMANIA: Railway reform authority ARF has awarded Alstom a contract to supply a further 17 Coradia Stream inter-regional electric multiple-units and provide 15 years of maintenance.
This follows on from an €270m order for an initial 20 EMUs which was announced in March, Alstom’s first order to supply main line passenger trains to Romania.
‘I am very happy to see that ARF has already decided to extend the benefits of our trains to even more passengers, almost doubling the initial order’, said Gabriel Stanciu, Managing Director of Alstom Romania, Bulgaria & Moldova, when the latest order was announced on September 16.
‘This shows our customer’s trust in the Coradia Stream as the reference product for a modern railway network in Romania. These 37 modern inter-regional electric trains will significantly contribute to the country’s transition to sustainable mobility.’
The six-car 160 km/h TSI compliant trains equipped with ETCS will have 350 seats, large luggage racks, passenger counting equipment and a dynamic passenger information system.
They will be 100% low-floor for easy access, with two doors on each side of the intermediate cars and one door on each side of the end cars. There will be four toilets, including one designed for people with reduced mobility.
The final configuration, colours and finishes will be customised to ARF’s requirements.
