Impression of Siemens Mobility Mireo Plus H hydrogen train for NEB's Heidekrautbahn

INTERNATIONAL: Siemens Mobility has signed a letter of intent for Ballard to supply 200 fuel cell modules over six years for use on Mireo Plus H multiple-units, including a firm commitment for 100.

This follows from an initial order for Ballard to supply 14 200 kW powerpacks in 2023 for seven Mireo Plus H two-car multiple-units which Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn has ordered for use on Heidekrautbahn service RB27 from December 2024.

The letter of intent ‘is a significant milestone for our multi-year collaboration efforts with Siemens Mobility and the future of zero-emission commuter rail in Europe’, said Ballard CCO David Mucciacciaro on September 23.

’Our fuel cell technology is an ideal solution to support the heavy payload, long range and rapid refuelling requirements of Siemen Mobility’s passenger train fleet.

‘We will continue our work to secure platform wins with key partners in our core verticals and to support their scaling plans to achieve decarbonisation’, he added.
