GERMANY: One of 18 Alstom Lint 54 diesel multiple-units ordered by the Land of Baden-Württemberg’s rolling stock body SFBW for use on Hohenzollerische Landesbahn services was unveiled by locally-owned operator SWEG on October 15.
The 140 km/h two-car DMU has a capacity of 150 passengers, and is equipped with wi-fi, a passenger information system, CCTV and air-conditioning.
SWEG will operate the Lint 54s on the Tübingen – Hechingen – Balingen – Sigmaringen and Hechingen – Gammertingen – Sigmaringen routes from December 13, when it will introduce a timetable which has been completely rewritten to reflect the performance of the new fleet.
‘With the modern vehicles and new timetable, we are making rail transport more attractive’, explained Dr Uwe Lahl of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Transport, who participated in the unveiling ceremony by video link. ‘Especially in these difficult times for public transport, it is particularly important that we provide passengers with a convincing offer by investing in quality.’
