MEXICO: National tourism promotion fund Fonatur has selected a consortium led by Alstom’s Bombardier Transportation México subsidiary as preferred bidder for a contract to supply rolling stock, communications systems and depots for the Tren Maya project,

The contract announced on May 26 covers the supply and maintenance of 42 diesel and electro-diesel trainsets, as well as depot equipment and the supply and installation of control and communications systems with a control centre located at Mérida.

The consortium includes Bombardier Transportation México, Alstom Transport México, Gami Ingeniería e Instalaciones, Construcciones Urales and Construcciones Urales Procesos Industriales.

Fonatur said the winning bid scored the highest and at 36·6bn pesos was also 890m pesos cheaper than the rival offer submitted by a consortium of CAF México and Rubau México.

Manufacturing will be undertaken at Ciudad Sahagún in Hidalgo state.
