RUSSIA: A two-car version of the Class EP2D electric multiple-unit family which is intended for lightly-used lines electrified at 3 kV DC was exhibited by Transmashholding’s Demikhovsky Engineering Plant at the Expo 1520 trade fair in Shcherbinka.
DMZ currently produces EP2D EMUs in four-car and 11-car configurations, with a total of 257 cars now in service with Russian Railways.
The steel-bodied two-car EP2D is 45·6 m long and has 136 seats. It has a maximum speed of 120 km/h and according to TMH offers a 20% reduction in energy consumption compared to previous designs, as well as lower noise and vibration in the passenger saloons and improved collision protection.
