LITHUANIA: The first of seven Pesa 730ML diesel multiple-units which national operator LG has ordered for the Vilnius – Klaipėda route was unveiled in Vilnius on February 15.
The 140 km/h units are similar to DMUs which Pesa has supplied to Belarus Railways, but with an upgraded interior suitable for the long-distance route which as a journey time of 3 h 45 min. The PRM TSI compliant low-floor units have 150 seats, including 16 in first class, air-conditioning and wi-fi.
Following testing they are scheduled to enter service this year, replacing locomotive-hauled stock. The DMUs will work in pairs at times of peak demand on the route, which carries around 500 000 passengers/year; ridership in January was up 3% on the same period last year.
