USA: Virginia’s Fairfax County Department of Transportation has awarded Transdev Group a contract to operate and maintain the Fairfax Connector bus network for five years from July 1, with an option for a further 10 years.
The contract is worth almost €400m. It covers the operation of 16 million bus-km/year using more than 300 vehicles on 89 routes serving Virginia's most populous county in the Washington DC metropolitan area, carrying 30 000 passengers/day.
‘We are delighted with the confidence demonstrated by the Fairfax County authorities in entrusting us with the contract to operate the Fairfax Connector bus network’, said Transdev Chairman & CEO Thierry Mallet on April 26. ‘We are strengthening our position as a leading bus operator in the eastern USA and particularly around the capital Washington DC, whether in Virginia or Maryland.’
