UK: J Murphy & Sons Ltd has been awarded the first of two contracts for construction of the future Beaulieu Park station on the Great Eastern Main Line near Chelmsford.
The £37·8m enabling works contract announced on January 24 has been awarded by Network Rail on behalf of Essex County Council and Chelmsford City Council. It includes site welfare set-up, civil works and track and signalling modifications.
This will facilitate main construction under a second contract which is to be awarded in the coming months.
Opening is planned for the end of 2025, with services to be operated by Greater Anglia.
The station forms part of a wider regeneration scheme, and will include three platforms with a central loop allowing fast trains to pass through, step-free access to all platforms via two lifts, accessible toilets, baby change facilities, waiting area, space for retail/catering, ticket machines and a gate line, pedestrian and cycle access routes, 500 cycle parking spaces, bus stands, a pick up and drop off area with dedicated taxi bays and parking for 700 cars.
