UK: VolkerFitzpatrick has been awarded a contract to build two high level platforms at Bletchley station for use by future East West Rail servces on the Oxford to Cambridge corridor.
A new bridge will connect the existing platforms at Bletchley station with the high level platforms near the flyover taking the East West Rail route over the West Coast Main Line. There will also be two lifts and an underpass providing access between the new platforms.
Work is expected to last until spring 2022, with construction being undertaken away from the operational railway to minimise disruption where possible. The opening of the new platforms for East West Rail Western Section Phase 2 services between Oxford, Bedford and Milton Keynes is planned for 2024.
‘With VolkerRail a partner in the East West Rail Alliance, and VolkerLaser and VolkerHighways already providing support and expertise in bridge removal and traffic management, this project has allowed VolkerWessels UK to demonstrate its capabilities and reputation as a leading multidisciplinary contractor’, said VolkerFitzpatrick Managing Director John Cox on July 19.
‘Throughout the project, our teams aim to work with local companies as much as possible, and we have already presented at an Alliance Supply Chain Engagement event to start creating relationships with local businesses and our procurement team. We also hope to support employment opportunities in the area, and any available positions will be posted on our job portal.’
