CIRO

UK: The Chartered Institution of Railway Operators has achieved its first Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services & Skills rating for its apprenticeships, and Office of Qualifications & Examinations Regulation recognition as an End-point Assessment Organisation for the Train Driver Level 4 apprenticeship standard.

CIRO was rated as Good by Ofsted, with no conditions, and its Level 3 Team Leader or Supervisor, Level 4 Passenger Transport Operations Manager and Level 5 Operations or Departmental Manager apprenticeships have been assessed for the first time.

CIRO’s assessment techniques and resources have been developed with input from organisations including train drivers’ trade union ASLEF. The Ofsted rating comes after OFQUAL recognition in January which allowed CIRO to be added to the EPAO register.

‘CIRO’s reliable, robust apprenticeship and EPA services will be key in championing the professional development of those working in railway organisations, enabling the whole railway system to succeed’, said CIRO Chair Ellie Burrows on March 9.
