Class 99 bi-mode locomotive

UK: Stadler has been awarded a contract to provide full maintenance and servicing of the 30 Class 99 six-axle electro-diesel locomotives ordered by leasing company Beacon Rail for use by GB Railfreight.

The service contract will start once the first loco has been handed over in 2025, and will run for up to 16 years.

The locos will be based at a new depot in Leicester, with Stadler managing overhauls, spare parts, material supplies, repairs, mobile service support, data and maintenance software.

‘We have established a strong foothold in the UK over recent years’, said Paul Patrick, Managing Director of Stadler Rail Service UK, when the maintenance contract was announced on April 13.

More than 400 people now work for Stadler’s UK servicing division, which has contacts with Merseyrail, Greater Anglia and the Tyne & Wear Metro, a technical support and spares supply agreement with the Glasgow Subway and a strategic partnership with Transport for Wales.
