UK: Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council are working with Network Rail on designs for stations at Oxford Business Park and Oxford Science Park as part of plans to reintroduce passenger services on the Cowley branch.
The line is currently only used for transporting finished cars from BMW’s Mini plant to Southampton for export.
Early proposals are for a half-hourly service to London Marylebone, with trains taking 7 to 9 min from the new stations to Oxford station and then continuing via Oxford Parkway and Bicester.
‘Introducing passenger services on the Cowley branch line will make journeys to the city centre and beyond much quicker for people living in the south and east of Oxford, and is something that we have been campaigning for over many years’, said Oxford City Council leader Susan Brown on March 24.
