UK: Depot equipment specialist Mechan developed a bespoke set of slimline lifting jacks for use in the confined space between shed wall and track at Davis Wagon Services’ workshop on the Isle of Grain in Kent.
Mechan modified its jack design to make the footprint as small as possible, and changed the motor and anvil position. The resulting set of four 8 tonne jackss are 3.5 m tall and weigh just 1 tonne each, 25% less than its standard lightweight units.
‘The Davis Wagon jacks are the smallest we have ever produced and certainly provided our engineers with a new challenge’, said Mechan Sales Manager Lindsey Mills. ‘Fortunately, the client had used our equipment before and was aware we could design around the logistical challenges they face.’
