UK: Siemens has been awarded a contract for the first-in-class design and installation of ETCS Level 2 equipment on a Bombardier Transportation Class 387 Electrostar electric multiple-unit operated by Great Western Railway.
The first-in-class contract announced on June 11 has been let by Porterbrook as the lead rolling stock leasing company for the various Electrostar fleets, supported by Angel Trains, Eversholt Rail and QW Rail. The project is intended to lead to type approval from the Office of Rail & Road, which would enable ETCS to be fitted to other Electrostar fleets in-line with Network Rail’s ETCS deployment programme.
Siemens is to supply its Trainguard 200 Level 2 Baseline 3 equipment for the Class 387 EMU, which is scheduled to be ready for service by early 2020.
