UK: Arriva TrainCare’s Eastleigh site has completed a £9m two-year programme to undertake the mid-life refurbishment of 10 Alstom Class 180 Adelante inter-city DMUs for open access operator Grand Central.
The trains have had a full interior refresh, with new seats with fabric and leather edging in standard class, new floor covers throughout and a full refit of the toilets. LED lighting has been installed, along with power sockets for charging mobile devices and revamped catering facilities including new coffee machines. There have also been improvements to accessibility and the baby changing facilities.
The DMUs have been repainted, with the five which were transferred from Great Western Railway being rebranded in Grand Central livery.
‘We are pleased to have worked in partnership with Grand Central in delivering this project, particularly in providing brighter and refreshed vehicle interiors that result in enhanced surroundings and improved on-board facilities and comfort for their customers’, said Russell Fletcher, Business Development Director at Arriva TrainCare.
