UK: High Speed 2 central area civil works contractor EKFB has awarded PLINX a contract to supply 1 500 helmet-mounted devices designed to help maintain social distancing at work sites during the coronavirus pandemic.
The devices use wireless technology to monitor how close workers are to each other; if they are within 2 m of another person, the devices will beep, vibrate and flash.
Anonymous data will provide health and safety teams with insights to help manage staff density and identify any pinch points, and data can be collated to enable effective contact tracing.
Envisaged longer term uses include maintaining exclusion zones around plant and enabling users to send emergency alerts.
