UK: HS2 Ltd has begun the process of appointing a supplier to design and manufacture around 180 switches and crossings and 77 rail expansion devices for Phase 1 and 2a between London, Birmingham and the connection with the West Coast Main Line at Crewe.
The switches and crossings need to be designed for operating speeds of up to 360 km/h, and diverging speeds up to 230 km/h.
The contract worth up to £156m would have options covering Crewe to Manchester in phase 2b as well as the maintenance depots.
HS2 Ltd is running a separate procurement process for four Track Systems contracts covering the design and installation of the track, co-ordination of construction logistics and integration and installation of the switches and crossings.
